Yesterday we had to say goodbye to a friend and a boss. Margaret, the editor and vice president of The Buffalo News, recently accepted the position of public editor at The New York Times. Read her interview about the position here. She will be sorely missed. Yesterday was her last day at the paper, and tomorrow will be the final day her name will appear in the masthead on the editorial page. She joked that it's been feeling a lot like her own funeral, in that everybody only talks about the good times. She has guided the newsroom for the past 13 years, 7 of which I have been on staff. And there have been some challenging times. Yet she leads by example, and lets the talented people on staff do what they do best. I can't thank her enough for seeing some potential in me and hiring me fresh from Canisius College. All of us in the newsroom are excited to see her take on this next challenge, and bring a little Buffalo to the Big Apple.
