Baz and Beyonce's Oscar night medley

Did you see Baz Luhrmann's insane tribute to musical theater at the Oscars last night? If not, you really need to check it out:

I think (or hope) I speak for all fans of musical theater everywhere when I say: what?

It's tough to know where to start with this one. First of all, how many songs were packed into this five-minute number? 46? Secondly, transitioning from "At Last" to a song -- any song -- from "High School Musical" and overlapping it with "Maria" from "West Side Story" and the title song from "Mamma Mia!" should be the musical theater equivalent of a felony. Thirdly: Beyonce.

Also, as a friend of mine pointed out during the show, hasn't the musical been back at least since "Chicago?" None of this is to disparage the charm and talent of host Hugh Jackman, a musical theater vet who very graciously bounced from "Top Hat, White Tie and Tails" to "Singin' in the Rain" to "Maria" to "You're the One That I Want" without the slightest griamce. A total gentleman, even if he wasn't the host of the century.

Judging by the look on Luhrmann's face after this half-baked musical frittata masquerading as entertainment was finished, I wonder how much he actually had to do with it. In any case, this one is definitely going to be on my favorites list on YouTube for a long, long time. What did everyone else think of it?
