The Simpsons stamps: high art?

Untitled-1

The New York Times' Roberta Smith has an intriguing rave review in today's edition about the new U.S. Postal Service stamps that bear the likenesses of America's favorite band of animated miscreants -- the Simpsons.

Smith's review is so bold as to compare the stamps, with their striking colors, simple lines and easily decoded expressions, to the work of Andy Warhol, Bruce Nauman, Matthew Barney and, perhaps most improbably, Richard Serra. It's a curious reflection on what ranks as our longest-running cartoon series, a personal fave of mine and surely thousands of other Western New Yorkers.

There's nothing like affixing a Homer Simpson stamp, with his mouth all discombobbled to the bill collector!!!!
