Bills get 2 picks

It was a bit of a surprise that the Bills got two compensatory picks in this year's draft. Apparently Nate Clements' $80 million deal trumped Derrick Dockery's $49 million deal. It also probably helped that Andre Davis had a big year at receiver for Houston. The Bills added Dockery and Langston Walker and lost Clements, London Fletcher, Davis and Mike Gandy. The Bills get the 132nd pick (in the fourth round) and the 251st (in the seventh). For those interested in trivia, the best ever player picked at No. 132 probably is Dave Meggett, the former Giants running back. Dick Rifenburg, who went onto a fine career as a Buffalo broadcaster, went 132nd out of Michigan in 1948. And if anyone reading this remembers that, congratulations for being a blog reader at your age!

Compensatory picks have been handed out since 1994. Buffalo ranks tied for fifth with Green Bay for most compensatory picks given at 24. The most: Baltimore (29), Dallas (26), St. Louis (25) and Philadelphia (25).
