Backup Bowl?
The Bills' coaches will get plenty of looks at their backup players at quarterback and wide receiver Sunday night in Indianapolis. Trent Edwards was ruled out for the game due to the thigh bruise he suffered in Tuesday's practice. Edwards was walking around without a limp at practice, but he wasn't moving real fast. He said he's feeling a little better each day and he expects to play against Detroit on Thursday. James Hardy did some running on the side but will sit out with a sore hamstring. Roscoe Parrish did some light running but will sit out with a sore knee. That means Justin Jenkins should get plenty of prime-time looks against the Colts. Of course, Indy quarterback Peyton Manning is out, as well.
Bills backup tackle Patrick Estes was excused for personal reasons, but Dick Jauron said he will play in the game. So the Bills won't be thin at tackle this week. The team pumped in loud music over the stadium loudspeakers while the offense was practicing to better work on communicating during the road game. It did not look like one of the sharper practices of the summer from an offensive standpoint. The scout team offense, with Gibran Hamdan and Matt Baker quarterbacking, was dominated by the Bills' starting defense.
