Florence may help Whitner
The signing of veteran cornerback Drayton Florence could have a positive affect on safety Donte Whitner, if it works out for the Buffalo Bills. Florence is best inside. He will battle Ashton Youboty for the third corner spot. But if Florence works out, he also could give the Bills the option of playing a true four-cornerback dime defense, with he and Youboty on the inside and Terrence McGee and Leodis McKelvin on the outisde. That would allow Whitner to play deep and, maybe, make more plays. Whitner often last year got pulled into underneath coverage because of his versatility in covering tight ends or slot men man to man or in underneath zones. It would be good to see him play more centerfield and perhaps see if he can make more plays on the ball.

Still laughing over the massive hit Sammy Morris laid on him last year. Whitner is in the same class as Royal and Kelsay. He talks a big game in the locker room, but seldom brings much to the field.

Whitner was the first reach of the 2006 draft; one of the first bad moves by Marv, one of many by Modrak.
He still has plently of upside. If he gets two picks next year he'll double his career total!

Whitner will never live up to his draft status. He was picked 8th to be a strong safety and dominate like Polamolu and the guy from the Colts.......He is a nice free safety in a pathetic defensive scheme, but not a dominate player like you should get at number 8.

why build around a guy whose best athletic ability may be the use of his mouth?

Right On! We need to stop moving Whitner around and get him in one spot to make plays.

Didn't anyone in Buffalo pay attention to the Drayton Florence/ Jerry Porter mess in Jacksonville? Porter made $1 mil./ catch. Florence was totally lost out there. He might as well have been wearing clown shoes. Despite the size of his contract, he was only used out of desperation due to injuries. To put salt in the wound, the Jags still owe Florence $4 mil guaranteed. I'm sorry Buffalo fans, there is no system that can make slow and inept work. You've been taken by the same grifter that got us last year.

That is a lot of money to give a guy who potentially could be your 4th corner (or 5th because Corner has showed a lot of promise). I'm hoping they trade McGee since he is in a contract year now.
