Terrell Owens worked out again on the side while his teammates practiced today in Orchard Park, and the veteran receiver looked pretty good running pass routes.
Owens worked out under the guidance of Bills trainer Shone Gipson in the fieldhouse, while the team practiced outside in the rain on the grass field. Owens looked like he was running pass routes at - or very close - to full speed. He was just running routes, not catching passes from a quarterback.
Owens will sit out a third straight exhibition game Saturday due to his sprained right toe. At this point, I'd be surprised if Dick Jauron risks him in the final preseason game since he is so critical to the BIlls' offensive plans.
Receiver James Hardy also ran pass patterns and some sprints with Owens. Hardy appears to be getting closer to practicing. He's 7 1-2 months removed from surgery to repair a torn knee ligament. Whetther Hardy will be well enough to open the season on the 53-man roster or will start the season on the physically unable to perform list remains uncertain.
Also sittiong out practice were Aaron Schobel, Drayton Florence, Demetrius Bell, Felton Huggins, Lydell Sargeant and Travis McCall.
Pat Thomas (calf) and Ashlee Palmer (ankle) both returned to practice Tuesday. They took part in individual drills but it did not appear they did any work in team (11 on 11) sessions.
