Post-game reactions in GB

GREEN BAY -- Here are some reactions from the Bills' locker room:

QB Trent Edwards on the sack-fumble-turnover at his own 5. He acknowledged he needed to get rid of the ball: "I did. I didn’t like the way I reacted. I felt like I was kind of in that gray area between tucking it and running or trying to throw the ball away. I was trying to get outside the pocket to throw the ball away because we had lost Marshawn (as a receiving target) in protection, and Roscoe wasn’t open over the middle and Lee was covered over the top. So it’s just kind of that gray area where you’ve got to be able to know when to throw the ball away and know when to take the sack. Obviously that’s on the quarterback. I’ve got to handle the ball well. I've got to tuck the ball away and let Brian Moorman come out and punt it."

How much should the Bills prepare for the Steelers' defense and how much should they look toward the regular season this week? Edwards on this subject.

Trent: "The hard part now is I don’t know how much scout team we’re going to be running. We didn’t face a scout team 3-4 defense (this past week), we faced our 4-3 defense. It is the preseason. We do kind of need to just learn things on the fly and be able to make in game adjustments. But I don’t know how much scout team we'll get, how many looks we'll get of Steelers defense. I was very surprised how many different looks their defense did give us. They brought corner blitzes, safety blitzes, a couple linebackers here and there, and that’s not something you see a ton of in the preseason. But give them credit they dialed them up and they beat us."

Said Dick Jauron: "Turnovers just really kill you. You can't expect to win a game turning the ball over like we did. And the number of penalties. We haven’t been a higly penalized team but tonight we got our share. … We gotta really correct those things and take care of the football."

Vandy: the person claiming to be me posted at 11:35PM. No way would I be posting anything at that hour.

I am relieved to hear it, Lloyd. That impostor had me worried about you.

Hey, Dave in Exile... I have jumped ship... to the Philly Eagles' bandwagon. And, there's still plenty of room here, even for you.

You say that, but how many of us are jumping on the, say, New England bandwagon? I've been a Bills fan since 1963, when I moved to town as a kid. I have stayed a fan thru 2-14 and wide right a forward laterals alike. Lord Ralph has us hooked. Live with it. Oh, we can complain, but nobody believes we'll jump ship, least of all us.

That last post by billsdiaspora really sums it up.

Too bad bills' managment, coaches and players don't read it. They are so arrogant it is a sin. Ralph should have never hired Levy or Mauron in the first place. What a shame for Buffalo sports fans.

So, I’m 59 and have been a Bills fan since I can’t remember. Have lived in Wisconsin for the last 17 years. Got tickets to last Saturday’s game. Love the Packers, it’s the league’s other small market team but I love my Bills so out came the Bills hat and T-shirt and off to the game I went with my wife who is originally from Long Island but has been an avid a Bills fan for many years (a better woman you could not hope to find). Here we are alone in a sea of green & gold. Green Bay fans are the best you’ll find anywhere and they extend unusual kindness to fans of opposing teams (except if you are a Viking fan… Oh Boy). Let me tell you the unvarnished truth, I’ve never been so embarrassed in my entire life as I was in the first half of that game. Hey Buffalo Bills … don’t let the sports writers fill your heads with spin, YOU STUNK UP THE FIELD (and in Lambeau Field for heavens sake the equivalent of football church!) Don’t whine about 3 – 4 defense or give your fans any other excuse, YOU WERE WORSE THAN PATHETIC! The Pop Warner teams that played at half time showed more pride than you. Which reminds me… T.O. man up will ya – a toe? How would a prima donna like you make a living if you had to play a tough guys sport like Hockey or Rugby? Prediction – this team will finish way less than 500 – no pride, no coaching. Professional football? Give me Pop Warner!

Edwards in a kinda gray area? Wow! This kid will not make it! Will it take another whole season for the retards to realize this glaring fact?

2 points:
1-the o-line: the last 2 years we have had a good running game. the "soft" line we revamped even had the national news talking about our run game. remember the last game against NE in gale force winds? still ran effectively even when it was expected. so far the run game has taken a big step backwards imo.
2-the linebackers: ellison looked like our best against GB, not that i am touting ellison, more that i am questioning the other 2, particularly the mlb. on ryan grant's 15 yard run (2nd quarter) they totally contained the de and pushed the rest of the line to the strong side. the GB center bursts into the 2nd tier. mitchell plows into the line on his side, probably good as they looked as if they all may be flattened there. the center glances at mlb and ellison and must choose. he chooses ellison wisely and mlb runs to get tangled up in the pile. that left scott and mcgee to plug that gaping hole. scott misses badly, falls, hinders mcgee. finally whitner slows him and they wrap him up in rear pursuit. seemed like most plays they muffed the point of attack and rear pursued. where is this mlb? the "great and powerful poz" is no wizard imo. leaves me longing for the days of london fletcher.
in addition, this stale, nearly clueless offense leaves me longing for the days of drew bledsoe. i am dreading september 14th.

All you business owners out there - this is a great example of what happens when you go 'cheap'.

All the things that go into making a team great, those subtle details - are missing in Buffalo because the wallet says 'no'.

Sure, you can field a team but you're losing customers and pretty soon, your wallet will be saying 'kill me now.

Postscript: My most recent post---why I am now a Philadelphia Eagles fan. They play and put schemes into action to WIN!

"Could be that Buffalo doesn't practice against the 3-4 defense because their defensive coaches don't the first thing about it."

The Bills were a 3-4 defense team for a oong time.

They need a defensive coach who can do 3-4, and an offensive coach who can show the O-line how to counter opposing 3-4 schemes.

Get this, though: Even though the Cards are a 4-3 team, they showed some 3-4 schemes against the Steelers in the past Super Bowl.

And someone in another thread said that Jauron should've been fired after last year(2008). For me, he was as good as fired after the 2007 Monday Night debacle vs. Dallas!

Cheapness now = Very expensive lessons much later on.

Spending somewhat more for good quality now = More and greater benefits afterwards.

Something Ralphie Baby hasn't learned since Chuck Knox came and went...

Hmmm, Russ Brandon or Matt Millen....Matt Millen or Russ Brandon. Doesn't make any difference, neither is GM material.

Could be that Buffalo doesn't practice against the 3-4 defense because their defensive coaches don't the first thing about it. How do you run an effective practice against a defense thay can't construct.

wait the Bills aren't practicing against the 3-4???

chalk this up as reason 3432512516435689345 that dick jauron needs to be fired today.

Is it just me or does Lynch look slow and ploddy?

It's time for Copeland Bryan to start. Granted his performance has been against back ups but at least he is putting out the effort and can get a sack every now and then.

Kawika Mitchell is reallllly slow.

Why haven't the Bills worked against the 3-4 defense when the whole division plays it and they went 0-6 against the division last year?

I hate watching a no huddle offense run at a snails pace and Edwards always looking over for calls. There is no point to it if you are going to take 25 seconds with each play.

I like Fitzgerald.

Good god. This team isn't practicing against 3-4 defenses? 3-4 defenses completely destroyed this team last year and they're not prepping for them heavily?

I know pre-season means squat, but this isn't looking good.

Seems like the same ol same ol with our Bills. I know its only pre-season but I felt the second & third stringers were great, they moved the ball; made plays and scored.

The first team is so stale, no huddle or not...this team can't move passed the damn 50 yard line. NO forward game whatsoever, its one play forward ten steps back and that ridiculous dump off to Lynch all the time is useless.

Edwards has shown me nothing, in my opinion he is a deer in the headlights. He has no clue at times and lacks the arrogance and cockiness to dare the defense into trying to stop him.

Edwards is too tentative and lacks the nads to just get the ball downfield, this is killing Lynch as a running back. NOBODY is downfield they are all in the box just waiting for some ridiculous play; hand off or dump off to Lynch.

Look at the difference in Aaron Rodgers passing the ball and Edwards throwing the ball...NO arm strength whatsoever, throw the damn ball!!! Edwards throws like his receivers have porcelin hands.

Lynch is another that has shown nothing to date that he can even break a tackle, get all that stupid looking hair out of your face and find a hole once in a while.

Its absolutely comical to sit there and watch Lynch continue to just run into the largest pile on the field and stop.

Jackson plays like the number one back; he makes plays and breaks tackles; he finds holes and makes positive yardage.

Fitzpatrick played well these last two games, he had confidence and put the ball where ever it needed to be to move the sticks...they were up and down the field.

Again its pre-season but I hope the mummy will actually make a coaching decision if this team can't move the ball.

There are some great players on this team, we need someone that can recognize talent and get the right people on the field for a majority of the game NOT just when the supposed "starters" are tired. These coaches should be putting the best players at the position out there.

Bravo to the second and third stringers this week at least you guys were a breath of fresh air and not the boring; non productive offense we have suffered through the last 10 years or so.

Its embarassing at how difficult these guys make it look to actually score a touchdown. I am so sick of field goals I could puke.

Finally why do we even need to punt a ball during the pre-season? The punters are pro's on this team and need the rest. Try an on side kick a couple of times or even something the other team does not expect?? WoW thats a new concept at 1 Bills Drive.

The 1st team offense has yet to score a TD in 3 preseason games. The Packers are just starting to implement their 3-4 defense and they still were able to create turnovers and get to the quarterback. I believe that the Bills will play at least 7 regular season games against teams that play a 3-4 defense. The Bills do not play well against 3-4 defensive teams. We saw just how much this team can struggle offensively without a weapon like Owens. Hopefully he can get healthy soon and produce.

You could have Tom Brady back there and he'd still be caught staring at how porous our offensive line is.

Trent was off by a fraction of a second on every decision he made. But that's what happens when you play against a team like GB that plays for their coaches.

Watch the interviews with GB players - they LOVE to play football. Not often you see millionaires who still love to do what they do.

If Ralph doesn't get it by now - I'm afraid he never will. Players want to win. If they can't win, they might as well be treated well. Which is the atmosphere in Buffalo.

Way to go Wilson, another great cheap head coach!!!

Watching Trent Edwards play against Green Bay last night makes me think he may not be the guy to lead the Bills back to the promised land.He still looks tentative in his thinking and throws a very weak looking pass.Is this guy a top quarterback prospect for this team?,I`m beginning to wonder again!

No, Chuck. Jauron SHOULD be fired by week five, but this is the Bills we're talking about. He'll go 6-10 and get promoted to team president.

So thus far in four quarters of play our first team has been outscored 41-0. Pretty, pretty good.

So the one aspect of your offense that you had all off-season to work on appears that you completely ignored.

No, I'm talking about the offensive line, I'm talking about playing against a 3-4.

Dick Jauron will be fired week five.

There's no getting around the turnovers and the poor secondary, but does anyone else think the offensive line has been terrifyingly weak so far? The lone bright spot seems to be Woods. Levitre has gotten bullrushed repeatedly in each of the 3 preseason games. I'm not a Trent Edwards fan, but its not all him. Keep Fitzpatrick really, really ready on the sideline, Dick.
