McGee deal done
It's official. Bills cornerback Terrence McGee signed a four-year contract extension on Friday. The total value of the deal is about $27 million. He might have been able to get more if he played out the final year of his contract and entered the free agent market, which has become very lucrative for cornerbacks in recent years. But McGee felt the peace of mind his new extension brings far outweighs the risk of a possible serious injury this season, which would hurt his value.
Besides, it's hard to complain about getting paid nearly $7 million per year. That is a significant raise over his previous deal, a four-year, $18 million extension that expires after this season. The goal for McGee was for him and his family to be financially set for the rest of their lives. The new deal helps him accomplish that. McGee also wanted to stay in Buffalo, even if it meant less money.
It's also a good deal for the Bills, who for once held onto a top-flight cornerback. Remember, they let Antoine Winfield, Nate Clements and Jabari Greer walk in the last five years. Allowing McGee to do the same would have forced the Bills to rebuild their cornerback depth yet again.
