Breaking news: Fitzpatrick to start against Texans
Coach Dick Jauron got right to the point Monday when discussing the quarterback situation, ruling Trent Edwards out for Sunday's game against the Houston Texans.
"Trent will not play this week. That's the, as far as I understand it from [head trainer] Bud [Carpenter] and our doctors, that's the proper protocol. That's the conservative approach and the approach we'll take," Jauron said.
That means Ryan Fitzpatrick will get his first home start as the Bills look to run their winning streak to three games. Jauron said Edwards is physically active now as he recovers from his second concussion in the span of a year.
"He'll work out today, he'll work out tomorrow and then we'll get to Wednesday and he'll start football workouts, but he won't play this week," Jauron said.
Jauron would not commit to Edwards as the starter when he's healthy. The Bills have their bye week after the Texans game.
"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it," Jauron said.

Amen gsimons, Amen. They have to let the young guys play before anyone writes them off. Look at what they're doing with the rookies on the OL. Why stop there? I mean, man, your LBs suck, they overplay every down and can't tackle anyone. They're last in the league in run defense. Psst the guys you have in there can't play. Put Poz in the middle between Nic Harris and Maybin. They have nothing to lose, only have one way to go and that is up! it's a win win situation. Cut Draft and that other LB they picked up.
Man, there are so many things wrong with my Bills and it's so fustrating seeing easy fixes the Bills can make work and wondering if they even considered. Is there anyone out there that has a seat in the face of Jar Head when he's meeting the media that can ask him if he ever considered playing Harris and Maybin at OLB with Poz in the middle? If so, please ask him for me. Too bad they don't have a customer complaint or an open suggestion line to Jar Head. I have some suggestions for him. Easy fixes.

Hi Louis, I can agree with you to a point. All the players you named were outstanding college player and that's why they were drafted that high. They came to the Bills and now they are bust. Check out the system and coaching they are put under. Games are won and lost in the trenches. You can take average player and put them behind good lines amd they will look good but put outstanding players behind garbage lines and they look like garbage. EX. OJ looked like a bust until he got behind the Electric Co and the rest is history. Get a real GM that gets real linemen and coaches to to coach them and you will see that list of bust go down and wins go up. Can someone tell me the logic behind winning the coin toss and not taking the ball? I know the mauron has a good reason but it not catching on around the league.

Hey Louis Martin, I agree that Whitner,Hardy,Youbouty
They need to sit down for awhile with Roscoe.
But Kelsay & Denney are my guys. They hunt brother.
Perry Fewell will figure out how to use Maybin in time. Just keep him on the roster.

Roy, Your answer to that question is Bruce Smith, 1985, his first year with the Bills. Only 6.5 sacks. and look at him now. He's in the hall. Now what do you say they let Maybin play.
Posted by: Louis Martin | October 27, 2009 at 04:32 PM
Maybin Hasn't played meaningful downs this year!!! I agree he is too small for the DE, Put him at OLB and watch him work. I can't understand why people on this site think he's a bust when the dude hasn't played meaningful minutes. The coaches just have him in the wrong position and are too pigheaded or blind to notice what and where to play him. Let's get real. Edwards=Bust, JP Losman=Bust, McCargo=Bust, Williams=Bust, Whitner=Bust, Youboty=Bust, Poz=Bust(china doll) Kelsay=Bust, Denny=Bust, Ellis=Bust. That's just a few. Now give the young guys a shot to find out what they have!

can anyone name an undersized pass rusher who did not explode on the scene? seems to me they all have it right away or don't

Crazyoldman, Edwards is out. Pay attention!

All these botched draft picks are killing me. Whitner, McCargo, Maybin,Ellis, Edwards, etc.
Posted by: Chris | October 26, 2009 at 11:27 AM ---------Buffalo has no talent at the offense from the draft, except lynch. I do not count the two line men drafted last 09 . Like almost all line men they take a while. Of course we could have drafted Other instead of little Maybin, and we would really be good. Good luck this weekend Buffalo. Edwards would get another concussion trying to get away from that Texas pass rush

It's crazy the way the Bills brain trust think. Why would they go after someone off the street to play LB and not give Maybin and Harris even a sniff at LB. mindboggling. Just like letting Peters go and giving T.O. six million. They could have given that type of money to Peters and then put Bell on the Right side with the two rookie guards and Hart playing center. But NOOOOO, the Bills just had a brilant idea to start all but one rookie on the OL. That OL won't be any good until 5 years down the road. No they are stuck with a pourous OL, and a Wr ( T.O ) that's not being used, and should have been moved at the trading deadline. They could have got something for him before he walks next year. Another dumb move in keeping him. Just like that dumbed down playbook. They dumded it down because of the no-huddle. No they are huddling up and still using those same five boring plays.
Are we ever going to see some creativity in the offense? GIVE AVP MORE THAN 5 PLAYS TO CALL JAR HEAD. 5 more, what do you think? You're offense sucks. ALL Evans and T.O do on every play is run straight down the field. This staying in a straight line is easy to defend by NFL calibur DB's. WHAT DON'T YOU GET? The offense in Buffalo is so painful to watch. I leave the room and wait for the DB to show me something. No wonder why you defer on the opening kick offs, because you don't even want to watch your own offense get BLASTED, I understand now.

Why not play Maybin at linebacker? He seams to small to play def end.He has the size and speed to play linebacker and can rush the Q.B. from that position. We once had a linebacker that led the league in sacks playing the left side.I can not think of his name at this time.

Just a thought but maybe Bud Carpenter should be the head coach, at least he knows when to sit someone down. This might be the best thing to happen to Edwards. This will give him time to look from the side line and see what is going on in the game.
He is getting sacked 4 or 5 times a game and hit twice that much and that is trying to check down and get ride of the ball. This has to be tough on a YOUNG QB. Bills may need another quarterback if they don't get some decent tackles because they are going to kill the QB's they have.

Regina,
Why did they pick Maybin if they won't use him? Who on this team is worth keeping? They choose and coach players worse than any other team in the league. You support that cr@p?
Who you callin a nimrod Reggiebaby?
Posted by: Chris | October 27, 2009 at 12:25 AM
Anyone know Edwards' Wunderlich score? I'm sure it was not close to Fitzy's 48. Probably more like a 20. Got to have some meaning and correlation to the demands of the QB position.
Posted by: JoeTanski | October 26, 2009 at 10:14 PM
I love when nimrods like Chris think the Bills can just trade away a guy like Maybin, who has a monster rookie contract and hasn't done anything to justify it.

A solid GM - will lead to a solid O-line and then you can worry about a QB.

WE NEED TIM TEBOW OR SAM BRADFORD 2010 I PREFER TIM TEBOW!

Steve Johnson is the only one you mention that I think deserves some kind of playing time. Can he run back punts?
Nic Harris and Maybin I think are mistakes. Tweeners that don't really belong anywhere (like Ellison). Hardy is a mistake too.
The Bills should find the teams that are worse than them and jettison Maybin, Lynch, Edwards, Mitchel, Ellison, Whitner. Then throw in McCargo, Ellis, Roscoe and the likes for a bag of football tees.
Raiders, Browns & Redskins should be dumb enough to take some of those guys for a few draft picks. Just draft linemen and LB's for the next 2 years then so LA or Toronto will inherit a good team.

The Bills haven't given Maybin, Hardy, Steve Johnson, nor Nic Harris a real shot yet. I can't put Maybin in with this bunch, and neither should you based on the fact he hasn't played but five snaps. I Agree with you on the rest thou.

We are seeing the gradual elimination of Trent Edwards from the starting QB position for the Buffalo Bills. Fitzpatrick is definitely not the answer for the long term, but we know it is not Edwards either. I am in no hurry to see Trent take another snap as the starting QB for this team. It is not like Fitzpatrick has played well. He has not. He has thrown passes that I can't remember Trent throwing for a very long time.

See what happens when someone is playing the quarterback position with just a little bit of talent? As far as I am concerned Fitz can start the rest of the season, as far as Edwards learning something from watching Fitz? You either have "it" or you don't and Edwards does NOT have it. Edwards lacks the skill; the confidence and the mindset to play the position at the NFL level. Its great to see the teams confience building and they will get better as the season goes along. Keep up the good work Fitzpatrick!!!

>>Like I told my wife, "Honey, I don't care if he throws an incompletion to the wide receiver as long as he actually throws to the wide receiver."<<
Well . . . don't keep us waiting. What did SHE say?
Posted by: Nobody | October 26, 2009 at 01:19 PM
One can only hope with more reps in practice and getting some game time that Fitzpatrick will improve his accuracy. He knows where to throw the ball and is willing to do it , it just doesn't always get there. Maybe Trent will learn something from watching him. I still think he has it in him, he just needs to have some guts.

Well, that decision was quickly made!

I'm glad Jauron didn't commit to Edwards after the bye week. I don't know if that means anything, but I'm glad he didn't make any promises. As far as I'm concerned, Trent has won 20% of his games this year, while Fitzpatrick has won 100% of them. If Ryan wins this week against Houston he's 3 for 3 this year. The only stat that matters is wins/losses. If the guy keeps winning then that's good enough for me. Keep him on the field. Anyway, at least he's throwing the ball down the field unlike "Captain Check-down" Trent Edwards. Like I told my wife, "Honey, I don't care if he throws an incompletion to the wide receiver as long as he actually throws to the wide receiver." Maybe if/when Trent comes back as the starter he'll have learned something from watching Ryan play: COVERED OR NOT SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO LET YOUR RECEIVERS TRY TO MAKE A PLAY FOR YOU.

The Texans will be much more difficult to defend than the Panthers.
The Bills' offense needs to make several long drives ending with 7 points.
I did not see the game; did McCargo play? If so, was he respectable?
All these botched draft picks are killing me. Whitner, McCargo, Maybin,Ellis, Edwards, etc.
