Wood's surgery successful; McKinney out for season

Bills coach Perry Fewell said rookie guard Eric Wood's surgery for the compound fracture of his left leg was successful Sunday night in Jacksonville.

Wood has not yet returned to Buffalo, and it is unclear as to when he will do so.

"I've tried to be in communication with Eric," Fewell said. "We've missed each other through phone calls. Those arrangements [on when he'll fly home] have not been made yet, so we'll just have to wait and see."

Wood was hurt early in the fourth quarter when Jaguars defensive tackle Montavious Stanley crashed into his leg. The injury was so gruesome CBS did not show the replay after returning from a commercial break.

"That young man was in pain," Fewell said. "That was not a pretty sight to see. ... That's part of our game, but as a human being you never want to see that happen to another."

Several Bills, including receiver Terrell Owens, were in the middle of trying to help Wood onto an awaiting golf cart, and several more offered a pat on the helmet as he was being taken off.

"It's tough, because we're all good buddies in that room, and you never want to see your buddy get hurt like that," center Geoff Hangartner said. "It's unfortunate. He's a good football player and he brings some excitement to the team and the offensive line. Guys respect that."

...

Guard Seth McKinney will also be out for the season. Fewell offered no other details of the torn meniscus McKinney suffered in his left knee other than to say the injury would be season-ending.

...

Running back Marshawn Lynch's shoulder injury was feeling better today, Fewell said, and will be monitored during the week. It sounded as if Lynch will at least have a chance at playing Sunday against Miami. Defensive tackle John McCargo strained a calf against the Jaguars and is day to day, Fewell said.
