Guy is out

SPORTS BILLS MINICAMP The Buffalo Bills late Wednesday announced the firing of Vice President for Pro Personnel John Guy.

Guy served as the team's chief pro scout for nine seasons, since being hired by former team president Tom Donahoe in 2001. His release was not a surprise, given the fact the Bills hired a new general manager, Buddy Nix, three weeks ago. Guy was the only other man to interview for the GM job.

The Bills have not had as much success in free agency as they have needed the past decade. They have had some glaring busts, such as offensive linemen Derrick Dockery and Langston Walker. Dockery was signed to the richest contract in team history at the time but lasted only two seasons in Buffalo. They have added some productive players, such as London Fletcher, Takeo Spikes, Sam Adams, Kawika Mitchell and Geoff Hangartner. While Guy was responsible for evaluating free agents, he was not responsible for the setting the amount the team spent on free agents over the years.
