PITTSFORD -- The Bills had a mini-scrimmage Saturday, a 10-play session that including live tackling. Most of the plays were runs, so it was a brief but spirited activity.
The tackling phase was owned by the defense, which stuffed several runs during third-and-short yardage situations and plays at the goal line. The offense did find the red zone twice at the end of the segment as Ryan Fitzpatrick connected with Stevie Johnson on a quick slant at the goal line and Joique Bell pushed the pile to get in off the left side of the line.
The live contact was a kind of dress rehearsal for the Bills' first preseason game next Friday at Washington.
"I'm not trying tog et the intensity up, even though that's what happens when you go live,'' head coach Chan Gailey said. "It's just you better have been live somewhere before you line up next Friday night. That was the last time we will be truly live before we get to next Friday night.''
