Bills-Lions Pregame

Kickoff for the most insignificant sporting weekend in North America - the last weekend of NFL preseason play - is about a half-hour away here in cavernous Ford Field in downtown Detroit.

Starters sitting out for Buffalo are running back Fred Jackson, safety Jairus Byrd, linebacker Reggie Torbor, right tackle Cornell Green. Running back C.J. Spiller is scheduled to be held out to avoid injury. (With Jackson somewhat questionable for the opener, the Bills don't want to take any chances.) Also out for Buffalo are tackle Ed Wang, tight end Derek Schouman and safety Jon Corto. Jamon Meredith starts for Green. George Wilson starts for Byrd.

Detroit will be without six starters: running back Jahvid Best, middle backer DeAndre Levy, tackle Jeff Backus, defensive tackle Corey Williams and safeties Louis Delmas and C.C. Brown. Corey Hilliard starts for Backus, Sammie Hill starts for Williams. Landon Johnson starts for Levy. Randy Phillips and Amari Spievey start at safety.
