The Road to the Draft: LB Dontay Moch

Dontay Moch, OLB, Nevada
6-foot-1 3/8, 248 pounds
Draft projection: Third round.

Lowdown: Moch is a classic “tweener.” He started for three years, 40 games, and made 30 career sacks at Nevada. He had 11.5 sacks as a sophomore, 6.5 as a junior and 8.5 as a senior. His 63 career tackles for loss ranks sixth all-time in the NCAA. He played at 229 pounds. He was up to 248 for the combine and ran a 40 time of 4.44, the fastest ever for a defensive lineman. Moch reportedly ran a 4.18 as a junior at Nevada’s pro day, when he was much lighter. But he’s not a defensive lineman in the pros. He’s small, and he has only played going forward, not backward in coverage. It’s questionable whether he has the flexibility to cover. He’s a situational rush man for the NFL, but his speed will get him picked before the midway point in the draft.
