Chase Minnifield, CB, Virginia
6-foot, 186 pounds
Draft projection: Second or third round
Lowdown: The son of former Cleveland Pro Bowl CB Frank Minnifield, Chase is taller than the average NFL corner and has long arms. He’s extremely disciplined, works hard in the film room and is projected to eventually become a starter. He has trouble covering receivers with top end speed and can be beaten by WRs who plant and shift on a dime. But Minnifield has struggled in his workouts since undergoing knee surgery in January. He didn't run the 40 at the Combine because of ankle issues and during his Pro Day in March, Minnifield ran 40-yard times of 4.63 and 4.68 and had a vertical jump of 32½ inches.
Mel Kiper, Jr. says: “Shows the necessary natural coverage ability and does a capable job in run support. Not an elite prospect, but he has the look of a future starting CB at the pro level.’’
NFLDraftScout.com says: “Despite the fact that he had only started one game prior to his junior season, Minnifield looks poised to follow former UVA cornerbacks Chris Cook and Ras-I Dowling as an early NFL draft pick.’’
