Where did he get the story?
Here's an interesting tidbit about how Graham Greene got the story for "The End of the Affair" (our March Book Club pick).
As with many writers of fiction, he drew on his own life.
In 1946, Greene met a married woman named Catherine Watson and they had an affair that lasted 10 years. She was married to one of the richest men in England and had five children with him.
In "The End of the Affair," Catherine became Sara Miles. Greene was Maurice Bendix.
Their relationship was turned into a second book, "After Two Years." Only 25 copies were printed, and most of them were destroyed.
