Concert Presents Fashion Dilemma

What do you wear to the Melvin Seals concert? It is a big question and a thing to be concerned about.

Melvin Seals is playing at the Tralf Music Hall tonight.

"It's like Halloween," says one friend. "You feel you should go in costume."

Will you be able to find your Grateful Dead hoodie?

Perhaps you should call in sick to work or cut class and get crafty.

You know how Terrapin Station is always telling you to stop in and say Hi?

This could be the day!

Charleston, S.C., Pays Bubbly Tribute To Buffalo

Buzz's cousin Gretchen is on vacation in Charleston, S.C. and took this picture at the Charleston City Market.

Buffalo wing soda

No Goal, we say. You know how you can tell it's not authentic?

It should be Buffalo Wing Pop!

Rare Photos of Jacquie Walker Surface On Internet

As Jacquie Walker celebrates 30 years with Channel 4, she is being toasted and roasted.

Steve Cichon, former news director for WBEN-AM, helpfully posted the picture above. He says it dates to the late '80s and features, left to right: Van Miller, Jacquie, Bob Koop, Carol Jasen and Ted Textor.

The gracious Jacquie herself posted this picture which we hope she will not mind us sharing.

Colleagues are chiming in.

The perpetually youthful and stylish Doris Jones, who like Walker is a member of the Buffalo Broadcasting Hall of Fame, writes: "Congratulations to one beautiful lady... inside and outside. You look as young as ever -- always perfectly groomed and a real talent."

Shane Brother Shane, the greet deejay, writes with his trademark eloquence: "Wish I could have been with you, every step of the way, Chipmunk."

And speaking of eloquence, the great Mike Randall, who in August celebrated 30 years with Channel 7, wrote his congratulations, adding: "30 years at one station!?! what are you nuts!!"

More Ghosts Appear at AM&As

In October it is fun to explore matters of the supernatural. And so it is with pleasure that we note more mysterious figures being uncovered on Washington Street, on the walls of AM&As.

Remember the first ghost?

Here is another.

Am&as 003

"Around the corner," that reads.

And another! This apparation appears to date from 1950.

Ghosts clad in important fall fabrics!

A fleeting sight, beneath the scaffolding over the sidewalk.

Catch them while you can!

Two Heads of '80s Hair Are Better Than One

We start this week with a feeling of well being because not only have the Bills carried off a massive victory, but we were visited last week by two classic heads of '80s hair.

One was Sarah Brightman, whom Buzz beheld at UB's Center For the Arts.

The other, Bernadette Peters, whom Buzz had the honor of seeing at Kleinhans Music Hall. Here is the exquisite and exclusive Buffalo News photo, taken by Harry Scull:

What marvelous manes! Having them both here within days of each other is rare, like a solar eclipse.

Clearly Buffalo's planets are lined up right!

UB Welcomes World's Most Expensive Water Bottle

The Dreamchaser Water Bottle at last night's Sarah Brightman concert at UB's Center for the Arts was $25!

And people were buying it. Plus the $70 sweatshirt!

That concert lived up to its name.

Buzz must be dreaming!

The Last Desperate Day of Summer

The problem isn't that the temperatures will soon be falling. Buzz likes the fall, with the cider, and the stews, and the yummy Oktoberfest ales.

The problem is that today is the last day you can officially wear your summer clothes!

So what if the clouds are gathering. Buzz is running around in a retro sleeveless pink dress with a bow in the back. Ridiculous any time of year, but in a couple of days it will be prohibitively ridiculous.

A colleague on another floor is sporting an outrageous Hawaiian shirt.

Technically you can still wear summer duds to Curtain Up! tonight. And we plan to.

Seize the summer clothes!

Seize the day!

The Ghost of AM&A's

We don't remember seeing these before!

This is on the back of the AM&A's building, on the west side of Washington Street, beneath the scaffolding that is over the sidewalk. The inscription on the left reads: "Ask the women who sew with Vogue."

Every once in a while you glimpse past glories.

You have to keep your eyes open!

Disco DJ Makes Stealth Trip Back to Buffalo

Adding sparkle to this rainy Buffalo weekend is "Doctor" John Bisci, the DJ of the long-gone disco Club 747, immortalized in the above video. Bisci now lives and works in Las Vegas and he was in town on business.

Doctor John is not to be confused with the bluesman Dr. John! Originally, Bisci told Buzz, he worried when he was told to take that name, because the New Orleans bluesman already had it.

Then he reasoned that the musician Dr. John's real name is Mac Rebennack. In any case, Dr. John from New Orleans has been gracious and has never protested.

Bisci had to take a nickname, he said, because all the deejays back then had nicknames. There was Charles "Captain Disco" Anzalone, Charlie "CC" Cimino and someone else he mentioned to us who went by General Mills, hahahaha!

We liked how Bisci, who is now pretty dapper (he's at right, under the banner, in this pic)...

... sees the humor in the situation.

He said: "The first night I announced I was Doctor John, I was laughing so hard."

Paul Crapsi's Sling Shot

Today's Buzz column continues the saga of the adventures of Paul Crapsi, candidate for Family Court Judge.

Here is the exclusive picture of him in a sling.

Fine with us if it gives him a shot in the arm.

He's earned it!
