Good things in store for Griffs softball
It's almost become a given that the Canisius softball program will win the MAAC tournament and advance to the NCAA tournament.
The Golden Griffins have established themselves as the class of the conference and Western New York with their 10 NCAA tourney appearances.
But this year set records -- both individually and collectively. The 39 wins stands as the most in program history and renders this team worthy of comparison to the 1994 team -- the first to go the NCAA tourney while winning three games (including two in the now defunct play-in round).
And while Canisius loses some talented players and incredible leadership the returning lineup leaves plenty of excitement for the 2009 season, including the return of Lauren Hope (single season steal record as a freshman) and Michelle Fridey (team leader in RBIs) among others.
Perhaps the Griffs program is ready to take the next step and make it to their first regional championship round next year.
