UB lands Tulsa big man

Cameron Downing, a 6-9 senior power forward/center from Tulsa Memorial High School, has given a verbal commitment to UB. Texas-San Antonio, Missouri State, Tulsa and Oral Roberts also were recruiting Downing.

"When I got up there (for a visit), I really connected with the (UB) coaches and players," Downing told the Tulsa World. "The coaches really wanted me."

Downing, a 6-9 senior, averaged 15 points, 9.4 rebounds and shot 73 percent fron the field for the Chargers last season. He also helped Memorial win the 6A state title in 2008.

UB's frontcourt of the future appears to be set with Downing, 6-5 swingman Trevis Simpson from Georgia and 6-8 power forward Javon McCrea from Newark. This also has to be Reggie Witherspoon's best recruiting effort since the four-man recruiting class highlighted by Turner Battle and Mark Bortz in 2000.
