UB hires a winner

It seems almost unreal that just five years after it was considered the worst program in all of college football, UB is hiring a man who will coach at undefeated team in the Sugar Bowl.

The Bulls next coach is Cincinnati offensive coordinator Jeff Quinn, who has 26 years of college experience. While many around the program were hoping for UB offensive coordinator Danny Barrett, this is a slam-dunk hire for the athletics director Warde Manuel.

The only thing about Quinn is he didn't call his own plays when he coached under Brian Kelly who is now at Notre Dame. But the Bearcats ran an offense totally designed by Quinn and he did the majority of the game planning. Remember, Turner Gill didn't have any play calling duties when he was the assistant at Nebraska.

The Bulls may even be more explosive offensively under Quinn, who runs the spread and has won three conference championship over the last four seasons including one with a freshman quarterback named Dan LeFevour. The Bearcats won back-to-back Big East titles with Quinn as the OC.

Five years ago, there's no way UB hires someone like Quinn. My, have times changes.
