Live: Canisius-Rider men's basketball

Canisius returns to the Koessler Athletic Center to host Rider with tipoff in about 30 minutes. Home has been a rare site for the Golden Griffins, who have not played in Buffalo Since Jan. 4. Canisius went 2-2 on its recent road swing with wins over Marist and Manhattan.

The tale of the tape is rather even with the Broncs (10-10 overall, 3-5 MAAC) with the difference likely coming in which team can take better care of the basketball. The Griffs (9-10, 4-4 MAAC) are averaging 15.2 turnovers a game. The Griffs are 7-2 when they commit fewer turnovers than their opponents but 2-8 when they boot the ball around more.

Check back for updates throughout the game.

First half
15:45: Rider leads, 6-4, after Canisius jumped out to a 4-0 lead. The Griffs are getting some good looks on offense but have missed their last four shots.
11:45: Julius Coles offers up a circus-move layup to avoid flying bodies on the fast break to tie the game, 13-13. The Griffs find some rhythm on their shots as the teams keep pace with each other.
7:45: The long-ball rules this four-minute segment as both teams trade a pair of three-pointers. Rider again took a quick lead, 18-13, but Canisius hit a few shots, including an offensive rebound tip-in by Greg Logins, and the score is tied, 23-23.
3:37: A 3-pointer by Coles gives the Griffs a 33-28 lead. Canisius spent that segment running, running, running, creating points and opportunities on fast breaks off misses and turnovers.

Halftime: Canisius led by as many as seven, 35-28, but three-pointers by Rider reigned in the lead. The Griffs lead, 39-38, at the break. Justin Robinson of Rider leads all scorers with 16 points, including hitting 4-of-6 from three-point range. Frank Turner has 13 for Canisius, hitting 7-of-7 from the free throw line, while Julius Coles has 12 points, including a pair of three pointers. The Griffs have just three turnovers in the first half and hold a 20-8 scoring advantage in the paint.

Second half
15:45: Canisius leads, 49-43 with a fastbreak layup by Turner and some good inside play by Coles. If the Griffs could tighten up defensively, they may be able to give themselves some space in this game.
14:23: Rider timeout becomes a full media timeout as the Griffs lead, 51-45. Canisius just had a chance to make it a 10-point lead but tips around the basket missed and Rider's Jhamar Youngblood scored a layup off the miss to cut the lead to six instead.
11:19: Griffs lead, 56-49. Play gets a bit sloppy at both ends. Canisius got to its 10-point lead, 56-46, on a three-pointer from Coles off a busted play but the Griffs didn't get anything on its next three trips down the floor.
7:43: Canisius leads, 60-49 and will have the ball coming out of the timeout. The Griffs played better defense and have limited Rider's touches. Coles and Turner both have 19 points.
3:36: Canisius leads, 64-52. The Griffs rebounding has been solid for most of the game.

Final: Canisius wins, 74-58.
