Saint Peter's @ Canisius Live

FINAL: Saint Peter's 68, Canisius 55. Only Griffs' second double-digit loss since start of December. Other was at Siena. That's five straight wins for Peacocks, who completed the always difficult WNY road sweep.

Saint Peter's 59, Canisius 44, 3:23 left 2nd half: Griffs getting a schoolin'.

Saint Peter's 49, Canisius 36, 7:58 left 2nd half: See gist of previous posts.

Saint Peter's 45, Canisius 34, 11:40 left 2nd half: Peacocks look like a team about to run winning streak to five games. Griffs just can't get any flow on the offensive end.

Saint Peter's 39, Canisius 32, 15:42 left in 2nd half: Frank Turner opens half with a three for Griffs but Leon quickly counters. Two Elton Frazier FTs have Canisius within seven. Peacocks no longer burying everything from beyond arc.

Halftime: Saint Peter's 36, Canisius  27: Down as many as 15, Griffs cut deficit to nine at intermission. Peacocks have been unconscious from beyond the arc, hitting 8 of 12. Logins leads Griffs with 11 points. Jenkins and Belin each have nine for the Peacocks. Canisius 9 of 28 from the field, Peacocks 14 of 33. Rebounds: Saint Peters, 26-15.

Saint Peter's 33, Canisius 21, 2:27 left in 1st half: Peacocks putting on a clinic at both ends. Last three FGs have been treys by Jenkins, Samuels and Belin, all of them out of the offense. Griffs can's establish anything on the inside. As a result, Saints Peter's overplaying the perimeter.

Peter's 22, Canisius 16, 7:32 left 1st half: Steven Samuels hits a 23-footer and produces a layup off a Griff turnover as the Peacock extend lead. Greg Logins has last six Canisius points, hitting a three and then converting a conventional three-point play. Rebounds favor Peacocks, 18-8. Ten of those are offensive.

Saint Peters 12, Canisius 10, 11:34 left 1st half: Peacocks creating all kinds of opportunities on the offensive boards. Ryan Bacon tip was the third shot of one possession. Wesley Jenkins three came on the fourth or fifth shot of another. Peacocks holding tough despite losing point guard Nick Leon to his second foul with 16:15 left. Griffs struggling to get looks on the interior.

Prelude: Big test for the Griffs, who haven't started 6-4 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play since Jan. 30, 1999, . . . Canisius has won five of last eight, with all three losses coming on the road. . . . First meeting of season between teams. They go at it again in New Jersey on Feb. 7 . . . Tough stretch awaits Griffs after this one. They get Niagara at the KAC on Friday, then have road games against Iona, Niagara and Saint Peter's. . . . Peacocks have won four straight, the last a 74-65 victory at Niagara Friday night to complete sweep of that season series. . . . Big key will be Canisius's ability to generate offense out of the halfcourt against a team holding conference foes to 36.8 percent shooting from the field.
