Niagara couldn't have picked a better opponent for Senior Day then Marist, the last-place team in the MAAC It took the Purple Eagles less than10 minutes to build a 15-point lead on the Red Foxes. Soon, though NU's eagerness to jack up three-point shots and excessive fouls threaten to let Marist right back into the game. Marist cut what had been a 20-5 deficit to 30-23 before the Red Foxes own ineptitude took over.
The visitors shot only 8 for 25 in the first half (32 percent) and made only 5 of 11 free throws and turned the ball over 10 times. Niagara shot 14 for 32, but was 4 for 15 from three-point range.
Demetrius Williamson, who hit for a career high in Friday's big win over Siena, got off to a hot start against Sunday. He scored Niagara's first seven points and finished the half with 12 points. Rob Garrison, another senior chipped in with nine.
Williamson, Garrison, Tyrone Lewis and Bilal Benn were the Niagara seniors honored before the game and the NU senior cheerleaders were recognized at the halftime.
