Canisius Women Bow Out

ALBANY -- The Canisius women went scoreless for the final 8:43 today and bowed out of the MAAC Tournament with a 57-38 loss to defending champion and top seed Marist.

The Golden Griffins were within one point, 26-25, after a basket by Tasia Lee with 16:44 left in the game. But Kristine Best hit two three-point shots in a 12-0 run that put the Red Foxes in control. Canisius, which shot 14-for-57 for the day (24.6 percent) never got closer than seven again.

Senior Brittane Russell was the only Canisius player in double figures with 17 points. The Golden Griffins finished 12-19. Marist, which beat the Griffs in last year's title game, has won the last four MAAC tourney titles and hasn't lost since dropping the MAAC final to Canisius in Buffalo five years ago.
