Griffs Lead by 8 at the Half

ALBANY --   The Canisius men went on a 12-0 run midway through the first half and took a 34-26 halftime lead over Marist in the prequarterfinal round of the MAAC Tournament late Friday night at the Times Union Center.

The seventh-seeded Golden Griffins were content to fire up three-point shots in the first 20 minutes against a 1-28 Marist squad. Canisius shot 7-for-18 from downtown in the opening half -- and 4 of 8 from inside the arc. Elton Frazier led the way with nine points, making all four of his two-point attempts. Senior Frank Turner had five points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists and played all 20 minutes.

Reserve R.J. Hall had eight points to lead the Red Foxes, the 10th seed in the tourney.

The winner meets second-seeded Fairfield at 7:30 on Saturday night. Niagara plays Iona in the late game of the men's quarterfinal round Saturday at 10 p.m.
