UB coach Jeff Quinn announced Friday evening that his starter at quarterback for Saturday’s game against Temple will be true freshman Alex Zordich.
After sophomore Jerry Davis struggled last week at Northern Illinois, Quinn decided to allow Davis and Zordich compete for the position this week in practice with both receiving equal reps.
A 6-foot-3, 219-pounder from Youngstown, Ohio, Zordich entered last Saturday’s game against Northern Illinois on UB’s final drive from its own 29 with 4:27 remaining. He moved the team to the Northern Illinois 17 before time expired and completed 2 of 3 passes for 19 yards, including deep out pass of 12 yards to Fred Lee. He also displayed the ability to pull the ball and run while finishing with 23 yards with a long of eight.
Zordich’s Cardinal Mooney High School team finished a perfect 15-0 last season and captured the Ohio Division III state championship.
