Game analysis: Certainly Jeff Quinn didn’t expect anything like this when he came here from Cincinnati. Now, following UB’s 20-3 loss at home to Ball State, the Bulls are 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the Mid-American Conference.
How UB lost: The offense showed a pulse until true freshman QB Alex Zordich was knocked out of the game with a rib injury. He was replaced by Jerry Davis who finished 5 of 16 for 39 yards and two interceptions. The offense piled up just 144 yards.
Turning Point: The Bulls trailed 10-3 when Ball State S Sean Baker snatched the ball away from Davis after a run and returned it 26 yards for a touchdown.
Player of the game: Baker recorded two interceptions, the fumble recovery for the TD and a breakup.
Stat of the game: Six UB receivers had 56 yards. Ball State’s Briggs Orsbon had 54 yards by himself.
What the loss means: UB falls to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in league play.
In the house: Drew Willy, James Starks and Naaman Roosevelt were among the 11,355 at UB Stadium.
He said it: “It bothers me and our entire football program to be in this position’’ – UB coach Jeff Quinn
He said it too: “Why are you calling time out? It’s cold out here!” – A disgruntled UB fan late in the game.
Up next for the Bulls: vs. Eastern Michigan next Saturday at UB Stadium.
