UB 87, Towson 76
How UB Won: The hard way. After a 51-point first half, and after holding a 13-point lead with just under nine minutes left, Bulls dodged bullets in the final minutes. Inside play of Mitchell Watt and Javon McCrea were instrumental in righting ship, along with Byron Mulkey's work at the point.
Turning Point: Towson's Braxston Dupress missed the opening end of a one-and-one with 3:07 left when a pair of free throws would have cut UB's lead to two. The Bulls responded with seven straight points.
Player of the Game: Zach Filzen's early blitz from the outside made room for UB on the interior., He finished with a game-high 23 points on 8-of-12 shootings and added six boards.
Stat of the Game: UB went 24 of 35 from the free throw line, the first time this season it's been over 50 percent. Mulkey was 10 of 12, which is where you'd like your point guard to be.
In the House: Only 1,309 showed up on a football afternoon -- five less than at the Canisius-Eastern Michigan game earlier in the day. Hmmm. I do believe UB has a slightly larger enrollment.
Next Up: What do you know? Bulls (2-1) travel down the road to Canisius at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Griffs won last year's battle 73-71 on Frank Turner's short jumper with one second left.
