APR numbers to be released today

---The NCAA officially announces updated Academic Progress Rate numbers this morning. These are the numbers for which schools can be penalized with the loss of scholarships if they don't meet certain academic thresholds which can be found here.

It's not expected that anyone in the Big 4 is in any danger although UB football and St. Bonaventure men's basketball had APR issues in the past. UB football lost scholarships in the past but in 2010 increased its number to 949, 24 points higher than the cutoff score of 925. UB lost three scholarships five years ago, and accepted two of its penalties during the 2006-07 academic year and one scholarship for 2007-08. Raising the single-year number one point, however, could make UB coach Jeff Quinn a little richer. His contract calls for a bonus of $5,000 if the APR is 950 or higher.

Last year, St. Bonaventure men's basketball team had an APR of 952, 48 points higher than two years ago. The Bonnies met the guidelines of a waiver filed with the NCAA in 2009 that included making significant progress toward the 925 objective. Three years ago, St. Bonaventure scored 897 and was placed on public notice by the NCAA for failing to meet the organization's APR standards.
