D'Youville College named veteran high school coach Earl Schunk to head its men's basketball program and serve as assistant athletic director with primary responsibility for game management for fall sports and recruitment coordinator.
Schunk was a coach at Grover Cleveland High School from 1995 to 2010 leading the varsity basketball team to championships in 2004 and 2008. He also coached baseball, track and field, girls' cross country and softball at the high school. He spent 33 years in the Buffalo Public Schools system teaching mathematics and technology integration in addition to coaching.
His basketball coaching record at Grover was 165-64 from 2000-2010 and the Presidents won the Section VI Class A championship in 2004 and advanced to the state Final Four.
As varsity coach at Tapestry Charter School last season, Schunk led a young team to a 17-4 record and the finals of the Class C playoffs.
In other college news, Allison Daley, a three-time All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference selection as a goalie, with remain with Canisius College's women's lacrosse team as an assistant coach, head coach Scott Teeter announced. Daley is the most decorated player in Canisius history. The Peterborough, Ont., native was 2010 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and was MAAC Tournament MVP last season, leading the Griffs to the conference title.
