UB running back James Potts has been declared academically ineligible and will be unavailable to the team at least until the end of the first semester. Sources say that Potts, a red-shirt freshman, missed the qualifying standard by a hair. He was not listed on the depth chart for UB's opener against Pitt last Saturday, with Branden Oliver, Jeffvon Gill and true freshman Anthone (prounced Anthony) Taylor all ahead of him. Potts could be reinstated for a a bowl game if he meets standards and the Bulls were to qualify.
Coach Jeff Quinn held his weekly news conference Tuesday to review the loss at Pitt and look ahead to Saturday's home opener against Stony Brook. Quinn was high on his team's performance and QB Chazz Anderson, who accompanied him at the news conference, said he's convinced the Bulls can contend for the MAC title. More on that in Wednesday's editiions of The News.
Live UB/MAC chat coming up at 2 o'clock today.
