ALERT: Bulls SR slot receiver Terrell Jackson was placed on a backboard, immobilized and taken from field on a stretcher after being injured on a kickoff return early in second quarter. Will provide updates as they become available. Jackson had returned the kick and was taken down at the UB 17 on the Owls sideline following a lengthy, cut-across-the-field run.
UPDATE: UB trainers report that Jackson has feeling and movement.
FURTHER UPDATE: X-rays on Jackson negative. He's going for an MRI. Has some tingling in extremities.
PHILADELPHIA -- Hello everybody from LIncoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles and, today, the Temple Owls. Mild but breezy-gusty day here in the City of Brotherly Love. Goal posts are swaying. Winds (35 mph) will make the downfield passing game even more of a challenge for UB but could enable the Bulls to stack the box without reservation against a Temple team that doesn't throw often. Both teams are 1-1 in the MAC East so this is a big one in terms of the race to the division crown, I'll be providing updates and observations throughout. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
There is no TV on this one. It'll be webstreamed at All-MACcess.
TEMPLE 3-0: Owls end opening drive with a 28-yard Brandon McManus field goal. Temple marches to UB 10 before Josh Copeland made nice tackle in space on Bernard Pierce on third down. Temple QB Chester Stewart went 4 for 4 for 38 yards on opening drive, with a pair of third-down completions. Bulls are stacking box and challenging Stewart and he's had success.
TEMPLE 10-0, late in first: Pierce is special. He breaks Josh Copeland tackle in backfield and goes in from the 2 to complete 72-play drive. Pierce got outside twice on Bulls for gains of 28 and 9. He already has 15 carries and 86 yards. TD was his 16th, tying his own single-season school record. He now shares school career record of 43 TDs with Paul Palmer.
Jasen Carlson started for Dillon Guy at LG for Bulls. Gives UB more experience up front.
UB has its second three-and-out. Anderson's 0for-2 passing. First was deflected and almost picked. Second fell short of Branden Oliver but would have gone nowhere anyway.
Third straight three-and-out for Bulls. They thought about going for it on fourth-and-one from their own 29 with 11:34 left in quarter and then decided against it.
TEMPLE 17-0, 10:42: Maybe Bulls shouldn't have punted. Two plays later Pierce sets school single-season and career TD record with his longest run of year, a 53-yarder untouched down the left sideline. He's at 18 carries for 141. His combination of speed and strength makes him so hard to defend. Teams have to respect him inside, but if they stack too tight, boom, he'll just break it outside.
TEMPLE 24-0, 5:21: UB finally put the Owls into punt formation and it blew up in Bulls' face. Temple short-snaps to Ahkeem Smith, who bolts up middle, breaks tackle around 10 and goes in from 49 out for Owls' third TD.
Peter Fardon's 39-yard FG attempt blocked by rush from left side with 1:13 remaining. Fardon appeared late in getting kick away. Looked like ball had been placed by Jacob Schum before Fardon began his approach. We're replay-limited here today.
Pierce 51-yard TD run with 30 seconds left negated by chop block. Bulls can't wait to get to halftime.
HALFTIME: Pierce has 20 carries for 150 and Owls have 239 yards on the ground to UB's 50. Chazz Anderson just 7 of 16 passing with another drop by Marcus Rivers in there.
THIRD QUARTER: Temple, 31-0. Matt Brown goes 58 yards for TD. Not sure Tennessee game was this lopsided.
FOURTH QUARTER: 34-0.
