OXFORD, Ohio -- Good afternoon everybody from the "Cradle of Coaches." It takes a bit of work to find Miami (my GPS instructed: Turn right on unnamed road) but once you find it, what a place! Just a gorgeous campus made to look all the more impressive by this beautiful fall day. Mostly sunny skies. Temperatures around 50. And the leaves still holding on to a little bit of color.
UB arrived two hours before kickoff and walked the field, as is its custom. It's Homecoming here, and homecoming (smaller case) for Chazz Anderson, Josh Copeland and Lee Skinner, all of whom played their high school football about an hour from here.
Sweet place, Yager Stadium. The entry plaza trumpets Miami's standing as the "Cradle of Coaches" and features statues of the greats who have both attended Miami and coached here. The statues include Ara Parseghian, Bo Schembechler and Weeb Ewbank. Paul Brown goes up next year. (Have to wonder if UB AD Warde Manuel genuflected upon passing Bo. He played under Schembechler at Michigan).
A view of campus is hidden from the press box by woods. But I walked up-up-up the hill and it was definitely worth the hike. I don't know how many bricks make up all the buildings here, but I'm guessing we're in the multi-multi-multi millions. Very stately appearance.
