Eastern Michigan 30, UB 17
Game Analysis: The Bulls accomplished their main mission by containing Eastern Michigan’s potent running game. But UB’s defense of the pass was something out of a Twilight Zone episode. And that’s how it was that Eagles QB Alex Gillett completed 10 of 15 throws for 234 yards and his second straight four-TD game. Meanwhile, the Bulls yielded five sacks and couldn’t get their offense back in gear after a 14-point third quarter.
Turning Point: UB had taken their second lead when a mix-up between CBs Najja Johnson and Cortney Lester freed WR Demarius Reed for the11-yard TD reception that put the Eagles ahead to stay late in the third quarter.
Player of the Game: EMU’s Gillett validated his new reputation as a dual threat. He threw for four TDs last week and he did it again to Bulls. In addition to his 234 passing yards, he ran for 89.
Play of the Game: Wideout Marcus Rivers and tight end Aaron Connacher helped create the lane that sprang Bo Oliver for a career-best 68-yard run for UB’s final touchdown. Once Oliver gets in the open field he’s a runaway train.
Stat of the Game I: UB was 1 of 13 on third-down conversions.
Stat of the Game II: The Bulls were 3 of 4 on fourth-down attempts.
He Said It: “I think what we have to do, myself included, is make football important. Until football is important to us, we’re going to struggle to be consistent.”” – UB QB Chazz Anderson.
In the House: Senior day at Eastern Michigan attracted all of 3,830. Apparently if it’s not Michigan it’s not relevant.
Next Up: Bulls finish out with two division games at home, the first of them Saturday against Akron.
