Around the MAC

ATHENS, Ga. -- UB's not the only MAC team stepping up in class for its opener. Here's the rest of today's schedule involving Mid-American Conference teams:
Ohio @ Penn St.
Miami (O) @ Ohio St.
Western Michigan @ Illinois
Bowling Green @ Florida
Iowa @ Northern Illinois
Toledo @ Arizona

A few MAC openers are already in the books. Kent State went up 27-7 at the half against Towson and cruised 41-21. UB plays its MAC opener against the Golden Flashes on Sept. 19 (a Wednesday). Although Kent ran up the points against Towson, it had just 15 first downs and 267 yards of offense. Where did the points come from? Four fumble recoveries, two INTs and Dri Archer's 98-yard kickoff return.

RBs put up big numbers in the West. Ball State got 200 yards and 3 TDs on 20 carries from SO Jahwan Edwards in a 37-26 win over Eastern Michigan. And Central Michigan JR Zurlon Tipton went off for 180 yards and 3 TDs on 17 carries in a 38-27 victory over Southeast Missouri State.

UMass made its FBS debut with a 37-0 loss to to UConn. The Minutemen managed just 57 yards off offense. UB plays at UMass on Nov. 17.
