Last week's announcement that Notre Dame was leaving the Big East (excuse me, brand name is BIG EAST) for the ACC in all sports but football fueled many commentaries in the cyberworld. But my favorite came from Rebecca Lobo.
It's not just that Lobo is a former UConn women's basketball player who helped put the Huskies on the map and went a long way toward making her sport relevant in the national sporting landscape. Now well established in her career as a commentator for ESPN, Lobo has seen the Notre Dame-UConn rivalry flourish into one which divides even her household at times. (Go ahead and ask her children where superheroes come from. Apparently, they're born in South Bend, Indiana.) And while she loves a good basketball game, Lobo likes the rivarly part even better.
"More than the terrific matchups between the women's basketball programs, I'll miss the trash talk," she wrote in her piece on ESPN. You can't argue when the trash talk comes from your 3- and 7-year olds.
