Watson takes a leave of absence

St. Bonaventure University athletic director Steve Watson began an indefinite medical of absence on Wednesday.

Watson, who has been the athletic director for the Bonnies since December 2006, is having an elective, preventative heart surgery a university spokesperson said Wednesday night.

Watson lost is father and brother in a 13-month period both as a result of heart issues. His father, John G. Watson, the dean of the St. Bonaventure school of business, died in April 2011 at the age of 67. His brother, John J. Watson, a marketing professor at St. Bonaventure, died in May. He was 45.

Barb Questa, senior associate athletic director, will serve as the interim athletic director while Watson recovers.
