Canisius High grad White earns MOP in Division II lax title game

Canisius High school graduate Jeff White was named the Most Outstanding Player of Sunday's NCAA Division II championship game has he had 13 saves to help Le Moyne to a 11-10 victory over Mercyhurst. 

The Dolphins, ranked third in the nation, won their last 10 games of the season to claim the program's fourth national title, the last over top-ranked Mercyhurst University at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field.

White played every game for Le Moyne, with his 18-2 record matching the team's.

Other locals playing on the Le Moyne roster are freshman attackman Pat Nowak of Hamburg and junior midfielder Brian Lawson of Amherst. Neither appeared in Sunday's game.

Mercyhurst had eight local players, including two-time All-American junior defenseman Andrew Wagner (Iroquois). Also on the team are: Trevor Vargo (sophomore midfielder from Orchard Park), Patrick Maloney (junior defenseman from Bishop Timon-St. Jude), Luke Mann (junior midfielder from Bishop Timon-St. Jude), Marco Maronski (freshman defenseman from Frontier), Cory Becker (freshman midfielder from Niagara-Wheatfield), Cullen Mangino (redshirt freshman defenseman from Orchard Park) and Phil Brind'Amour (freshman attackman from Iroquois).
