Asmundson earns Atlantic Hockey honors

by Amy Moritz

Canisius coach Dave Smith said junior Keegan Asmundson had earned the start for the Golden Griffins in the second game of the weekend series at Holy Cross.

Asmundson responded with 31 saves and his first collegiate shutout to help the Ice Griffs earn the weekend sweep in an important Atlantic Hockey matchup. For his performance, Asmundson was named the Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the week.

It was the first sweep for the Griffs over Holy Cross since the 1999-00 season.

In 13 career games, Asmundson has a 2.08 goals against average and a .941 save percentage.

Canisius is tied for fourth place with Air Force in the conference standings. The Griffs are 6-4-1 with 13 points, trailing Mercyhurst (19 points), Bentley (16) and Connecticut (15).

The Griffs return to action Saturday and Sunday when they host Sacred Heart at 3:05 both days at the Buffalo State Ice Arena.
