Andre Ethier Bobblehead Night has officially been ruined.
Ethier, the Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder ranked first on ESPN's player rater so far this fantasy baseball season, is off to the disabled list with a broken pinkie. The Dodgers made the announcement today before their game against the Houston Astros, which is "Andre Ethier Bobblehead Night."
Ethier was hurt Saturday while taking a swing in the indoor batting cages in San Diego. He currently leads the league with a .392 batting average and 38 RBIs, and is tied for the National League lead with 11 home runs. The Dodgers called up Xavier Paul to take his place, but Paul should not be counted on to make much of a fantasy difference.
Check your waiver wire for replacements. One suggestion is Reds OF Jay Bruce. Aside from a great first name, he's hit safely in six of his last seven games, and for the season is hitting .273 with four homers, 16 RBIs and 25 runs. At 23, he continues to work his way back from a wrist injury and has a lot of potential.
