Alan Friedman, Buffalo's backyard astronomer, has been getting some great exposure (pardon the pun) on the national blogosphere over the last week. His stunning images of the sun have popped up in the Huffington Post, Discover Magazne, NPR and the Daily Mail, among many others.
Friedman (see his website) shot the images recently with a small but very powerful (and expensive) telescope. His view on astrophotography, the hobby to which he has dedicated so much of his time, is simple: "It’s science, but it’s got to be the sexiest science out there."
Judging by Friedman's scorching-hot images of the sun, we agree.
