David Shire, the accomplished musical theater composer, returns to his native Western New York on Wednesday to attend the world premiere of “It Goes Like It Goes,”a compilation musical based on Shire’s songs.
The show, conceived by University at Buffalo associate professor Nathan R. Matthews and performed by UB students, opens at 7p.m. Wednesday and runs through Sunday. It features songs from across Shire’s career, including the Academy Award-winning title number from“Norma Rae,” along with selections from his musicals “Baby”and“Big.”
The production features a full orchestra, new sets and lighting and is co-directed by Matthews and Terry Berliner, a New York City-based choreographer and director who served as resident director for the Broadway companyof “The Lion King” among other credits.
