Viva Vivaldi XXXIII reaches what promises to be a triumphant conclusion tonight (Nov. 27) with a concert at First Presbyterian Church. The huge, historic church on Symphony Circle is a kind of home church for the festival, which features the Ars Nova Musicians, led by Marylouise Nanna. A celebratory evening of music is planned.
Guest starring is Harmonia, the Buffalo singing ensemble led by Robert Pacillo that gave a beautiful performance earlier this year of Palestrina’s "Pope Marcellus Mass." Harmonia performs "In Exitu Israel" and "Laetatus Sum," two religious pieces by "the Red Priest," as Vivaldi was nicknamed.
Two violin concertos by Vivaldi feature Loren Silvertrust and Tea Prokes, who is the young soloist in a concerto known as "Il Corneto da Posta" or "The Post Horn." Oboist Paul Schlossman lends his talents to the American premiere of an oboe concerto in D minor by Francesco X. Thuri, a Vivaldi contemporary.
The concert ends with an arrangement of the folk Mass song "Let There Be Peace on Earth."
The music begins at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10.
