Naomi Shihab Nye featured guest of Williamsville Poetry, Music, Dance and Art Celebration

Poet Naomi Shihab Nye returns to the Buffalo area at 3 p.m. today as featured guest of the 13th annual Williamsville Poetry, Music and Art Celebration at Williamsville East High Auditorium, 151 Paradise Road in East Amherst.

This Williamsville Schools event, which was the 2011 National Winner of the College Board Award for Excellence and Innovation in the Arts, is free and open to the general public.

Nye, who was born to a Palestinian father and an American mother and spend a portion of her childhood in the Middle East, appeared in Just Buffalo Literary Center's BABEL lecture series this past December.

She is the author or editor of thirty books including “Fuel” (1998), “19 Varieties of Gazelle: Poems of the Middle East” (2002), and “You & Yours: Poems" (2005).  Her most recent book is "Transfer,” a new collection of poems published this past August by BOA Editions Ltd.  The book is dedicated to her late father, Aziz Shihab.
