MusicalFare's ' 'S Wonderful' tours the Great American Songbook

MusicalFare Theatre audiences are no strangers to the music of George and Ira Gershwin, the composer-lyricist team responsible for many of the best entries in the Great American Songbook. MusicalFare Artistic and Executive Director Randall Kramer even penned his own Gershwin revue, "American Rhapsody," in 2009.

So it didn’t come as any surprise when the theater announced " 'S Wonderful: The New Gershwin Musical" for its 2012-13 season. That show, which opens Wednesday in the soon-to-be renovated MusicalFare, features a whopping 42 songs by the brothers Gershwin. These include instantly recognizable tunes like "Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off" and "Someone to Watch Over Me" to less familiar numbers like "By Strauss" and "Just Another Rhumba."

Seeing this show may also provide a decent warm-up for next season’s visit from the national tour of "The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess" to Shea's Performing Arts Center. The MusicalFare cast is Charmagne Chi, Nicole Marrale Cimato, John Fredo, Kelly Jakiel and Marc Sacco, with Michael Walline and Doug Weyand co-directing.
