The suspense is over! The much-awaited bulletin is out. This year's Pine Grill Reunion, Buffalo's annual free tribute to gutbucket jazz held in Martin Luther King Park, is set for 4 p.m. - 10 p.m. August 4 and August 11. The lineup has just been announced.
The first Sunday is usually considered the headliner event, with the second featuring local performers. This year follows that pattern.
August 4 features the great saxophonist Houston Person. That's great news. Houston Person is a Pine Grill Reunion favorite. He plays this old beat-up sax and you should hear him play it. Also on the bill are Chicago-based songstress Kenya, who performed this past June at the Tralf; vocalist Ms. Vinnie Knight, and blues guitarist and singer Ray Schinnery.
August 11 brings us Shorty Long and the Resurrection Band, the Unity Band and the Jazz Example Legacy featuring Flick Williams.
We will explore the artistry of these performers more in the next couple of weeks.
Meanwhile, mark your calendars!
