JoAnn Falletta, music director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, is blossoming into quite the wild Irish rose.
Joined by celebrated flutists Sir James Galway and his wife, Lady Jeanne Galway, Falletta and the Irish Chamber Orchestra will be visiting 13 different American cities from Oct. 26 through Nov. 12. Buffalo is not among them.
The Galways, who played at the 2012 BPO opening gala, will both be performing the "Carolan Variations" by Belfast composer Philip Hammond. Sir James will be playing "In Ireland," a fantasy for flute and harp by Sir Herbert Hamilton Harty (1871-1949), and Mozart's popular Flute Concerto No. 2. Falletta is conducting a symphony to round out the concerts. She will alternate between Mendelssohn's "Scottish" Symphony and Mozart's "Jupiter" Symphony.
