Live Nation announced on Friday the addition of a Bob Weir & Ratdog date at Shea's Performing Arts Center on March 4th, 2014. This is good news for fans of the Grateful Dead and its various offshoots, as Ratdog shows in the area - particularly several that took place at the Town Ballroom - are the stuff of legend amongst jam-band fans. This will mark the band's first full-scale tour since 2009.
Weir has been busy for the past several years balancing his commitments to Furthur against solo outings. Now, both Weir and Furthur co-leader Phil Lesh have relaunched their "side projects" - Weir with Ratdog, Lesh with Phil & Friends - while Furthur takes a break.
The current version of Ratdog features some familiar names from the world of Grateful Dead-based music coming together for the first time. In addition to Weir on guitar and vocals, former Primus drummer Jay Lane will be on board, as will guitarist Steve Kimmock, keyboardist Jeff Chementi, and bassists Rob Wasserman and Robyn Sylvester.
Tickes go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m., at the Shea's box office, through Livenation.com, or charge-by-phone at 800-745-3000. They are priced $35, $45, and $65. - Jeff Miers
