Jason Middlebrook on 'Underlife'

I caught up with artist Jason Middlebrook earlier today to talk about "Underlife," his recently completed sculpture on the east lawn of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. The iridescent trunk and craggy tree roots of the sculpture, inspired by the legendary landscape designer Frederick Law Olmsted, become a kind of light show as the sun breaks through the morning clouds. Middlebrook talked about his inspiration for the sculpture and the long process of its creation:
